Jobs & the Economy

Passage of the Health Care bill has created a business environment that is leaving $2 trillion of investment capital on the sideline.  This capital is the equivalent of 2.5 stimulus packages.  Added discussion of a Cap and Tax scheme on carbon emissions by our President doesn’t help bring this capital off the sideline and into the economy creating jobs.  Business feels confident to hire people when they know what labor costs are.  Our current President and Congress have not helped business because they have added uncertainty to future costs by passing the Health Care Bill and threatening to introduce carbon emission taxes.  If elected I would vote to repeal the Health Reform bill in order to get the economy moving and create jobs.

Borrowing money from the Chinese to create government jobs does not constitute “job creation” it only increases our national debt.

Taxes

If our President and Congress are serious about creating jobs they should not raise taxes on individuals or corporations.  Raising taxes does nothing to incentivize job creation by businesses or consumption by individuals. Reducing corporate taxes would incentivize foreign corporations to relocate to the United States creating jobs and incentivize hiring from corporations already in the United States.

Fiscal Responsibility – The National Debt, Budget Deficits, and Government Spending

Plain and simple, our government needs to start spending less or, like Greece, our creditors will start making those spending decisions for us.  Republicans and Democrats over the past 50 years are responsible for the national debt.  We could address this by putting a stop to the bailing out of private industry, over-benefitting federal employees, and by seriously addressing pension reform. Total unfunded liabilities, which includes Social Security, Medicare, and debt is more than $354,000 per person. Can you write that check? I sure can’t!

Bailouts for Private Companies & Their Unfunded Pensions

If a company’s management makes such bad decisions that it can’t pay the bills, it should go out of business or declare bankruptcy – not become a ward of the state.  Republicans and Democrats alike have opened up the public coffers over the past 25 years to bailout their friends in private business.  Americans don’t pay taxes to act as a slush fund for failed businesses.  Our elected officials should start acting in the best interest of America and protect the public coffers – not subsidize poor business practices.

I can’t understand why the pension promises a private company makes to their employees should somehow becomes the responsibly of you and I.  When a private company fails to adequately put money aside as promised for their retired employees – those companies should not come looking to Uncle Sam for a handout.

Bailouts for States & Their Unfunded Pensions

If the elected officials of one state make such bad decisions that they can’t pay the bills, that state should reduce spending to pay those bills or declare bankruptcy – not become a ward of the federal government.  The federal government was not created to act as a back stop for the poor decisions made by states. I can’t understand why the pension promises of another state should become the responsibility of you and I.

Yes,  humanitarian and economic arguments can be made for bailing out states and their unfunded pension obligations.  However, sound moral arguments may also be made for not burying our nation, children, and grandchildren in debt they will never be able to repay.

Illegal Immigration

Just because somebody not born in the United States was able to order a plane ticket over the Internet, work under the table, and rent an apartment in the United States doesn’t automatically make them a U.S. Citizen.  Immigration laws should be enforced.  Our border and Americans living along it should be protected.

Right to Bear Arms

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

There isn’t much room for interpretation here – I support the 2nd amendment.  However, I support revoking the right to carry to formerly incarcerated violent criminals.

Education

I support parental choice in education. Currently, arcane state laws do not allow public dollars for private education. I will work to create a federal tax credit for any parent that is paying for their children’s private education.

Abortion

Women have the right to an abortion in the first two trimesters and in the case of rape, or incest. I don’t support federal funding of abortions.  I do not support abortions in the third trimester.  I believe medical personnel have the right to refuse to perform abortions on personal moral convictions without adverse consequences to their employment.
